When you visit AgnTho's AB on Lidingö island outside Stockholm you meet Agneta Eliasson-Fahlgren, the owner of the company, Thomas Fahlgren and Krusmynta, an 8 year-old dog, a Polish owcharec nizzinny. AgnTho's (the name coming from these two persons first names) started on the 1st of January 1996 and aims to be the company to which persons who work with different techniques within animal experiments can come to get advice and help and from which they can provide the instruments they need.

Before Agneta started the company she was a laboratory assistant. During her first 18 years of work she was employed at the department of Neuroscience (the former Histology) at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm; after that she worked as product manager and customer support for scientists from all over the world at a Swedish medical-technical company. She has a very good knowledge about this field the SJLAS readers also work in, having practical experience of many different problems and applications, which the customers use to face.

During these first almost five years of activity the company got a lot of positive reactions and support from the customers. Agn' and Tho' never even thought that there was so much "thanks for you are" out there. No one could ever imagine that there was such a burning need for a supplier in this field, however, deep inside her, while working with animal experiments as a laboratory assistant, Agneta felt already the need for such a company.

AgnTho's tries to be today as complete as possible within this field. That means that they have in their collection everything from not sterile and sterile sutures, needles, surgical instruments to stereotactic equipment, pumps and behaviour-instruments. For example, the last product in the range is a new complete anaesthesia/narcosis apparatus for small laboratory animals with Isofluran. With the existing, traditional equipment for inhalation-anaesthesia it is very difficult to give mice, but even rats a good general narcosis. The products which can be mentioned on the company's "advice and help" - list are difficult to put in a hierarchy. For instance the gavage needles became a great product. The heating pad, which doesn't need electricity has also become very popular, not to forget the new ear punch pincer for ear marking.

AgnTho's informs about its products on different exhibitions organised in relation to scientific meetings. The annual ScandLAS-meeting and the international TT-meeting for transgenic technologies at Karolinska Institute are examples of such exhibitions. There are also independent exhibitions together with two other companies 4-5 times a year. From the first sleepless nights at the start AgnTho's developed in five years to a needed and appreciated company - the best thing which could happen!
